Area Agency on Aging
The Area Agency on Aging helps older people maintain the highest possible quality
of life with independence and dignity, and
assists seniors and their family members
with the challenges of the aging process.
Programs available in Area Agency on Aging
Senior Information and Assistance
The Senior Information and Assistance Program
provides information about opportunities and services available to senior citizens in
Prince George’s County.
Senior Training and Employment Program (STEP)
Places low-income adults, age 55 and older,
in community service positions that provide
them with training and work experience.
Senior Nutrition Program
Implement nutrition services for the elderly
in both group and home settings. The
home-delivered meal service meets the
nutritional needs of those seniors who
cannot be transported to group sites due
to poor health.
Senior Health Insurance Program
Curb Abuse in Medicare and Medicade
Project (CAMM) offers health insurance
counseling to elder Marylanders and their
caregivers. Counselors provide assistance
with Medicare, Medigap plans, HMO’s,
long-term care insurance, medical assistance
programs, pharmacy assistance benefits,
dental appeals, grievance and billing problems.
CAMM is designed to prevent healthcare
fraud and abuse.
Family Caregiving Program
Provides assistance to caregivers, which may
include family, friends, and members of the
community, with access to support groups,
problem solving, education and respite care.
Senior Assisted Living Subsidy Program
Provides financial assistance to qualified low
to moderate income senior citizens residing
in assisted living facilities. Services include
support and assistance with activities of
daily living to residents who are not in need
of nursing home care.
Elder Abuse Prevention Project
Offers a range of services to abused or
neglected seniors and to those who are
at such risk.
Ombudsman Program
Promotes the highest quality of life and care
possible for nursing home residents. The
ombudsman investigates and seeks resolution
of problems that affect residents’ rights,
health, care, safety and welfare.
Public Guardianship Program
Assures the ongoing safety and well-being
of the elderly by professional case managers
when the Area Agency on Aging has been
appointed Public Guardian by the Circuit
Court.
The TeleTouch Program
Volunteers place daily reassuring calls to
homebound and isolated seniors in Prince
George’s County.
Foster Grandparent Program
This program provides resources for older
volunteers to work with physically, mentally,
and emotionally challenged children in centers
and schools throughout Prince George’s
County.
Retired and Senior Volunteer Program
Provides volunteer opportunities for those
seniors age 55 and older. Volunteers serve
at over 150 nonprofit organizations and
Government agencies.
The Home and Community Based Services Waver for Older Adults
Enables adults to remain in a community
setting even though their advanced age
or disability would warrant placement in a
long-term care facility. The waiver allows
services typically covered by Medicaid in
A long-term facility to be provided to
Eligible persons in their homes or in
assisted living facilities.
